In the wise words of Dorothy, “there’s no place like home.” As a mother who teaches at home, and has experienced two positive home births, I definitely concur! Home is where my heart is, where my family lives, and where our life unfolds. It wouldn’t be ours without visual reminders of the experiences and memories we have shared. That’s why we incorporate personal photographs to spruce up the interior.
High Impact in One Stylish Frame
People are sometimes reluctant to display family photography because they don’t like the single photo per frame aspect of it. A collection of mismatched small frames can verge on tacky rather than tasteful. Despite a long held design rule of thumb that family pictures are best kept to private spaces, interior designers are breaking that rule and are bringing the family photo into every room of the house. One way to display a large number of prints in one big and beautiful frame is to create a photo collage. This choice gives the feel of large format artwork but is filled with memories you can revisit with each passing glance.
The Photo Ledge
As our family has grown older and bigger I’ve struggled with which photos to keep on display and which to change out for something more recent. With 9 children, we simply can’t keep adding to the walls without taking something away. I came across the idea of a photo ledge and I knew I had the solution. All you need are a couple of narrow shelves with lips at the edge of any length you choose. You can stand frames of any size, layering them for depth, all along the shelves. If you want to change things up, it’s super easy. Take one down, add a new one, rearrange them…It is all simple with no new holes in the walls to do it.
The shelf can be any size you want; a tiny one for the nursery, a long one for the family room, etc.
The Staircase
Another imaginative way to hang personal photos in your home is to utilize the staircase. To put a new spin on this old classic, opt for a uniform frame style in a bright color like fire engine red. Stagger photos so that the frames don’t line up directly with the ones around it. Leave room to grow as you ascend the stairs and enjoy smiling at your family every trip you make up and down.
Coffee Table Book
Display your family memories in a quality hardcover photo book. Easy to design and print online, photo books are perfect for the coffee table and allow you fit a large number of treasured photographs in one handy place.
When it comes to rules, feel free to break those that lead to less satisfaction with the end result. Display family photos in any room you choose, and you can relive, and share with others, all those memories that much more!

These are great ideas! We also make an ornament each year for each child (the metals ones from Shutterfly, they are free around Christmas time). It’s so much fun to see how everyone grew and changed!

I would like a coffee table book. And maybe, it’s something we can switch out every now and then.
