No Fail Southern Biscuit Recipe

July 26, 2017 by Anne Marie 7 Comments

Spread it around!

My mother-in-law calls these her “No Fail Biscuits,” and for us – they really are. It takes about 5 minutes to mix them up and 10 to cook. Best of all, there are only TWO ingredients.

Here’s how!

Preheat the oven to 450. You’ll need 1.5 cups of good quality self-rising flour (I like King Arthur) and 3/4 cup of heavy cream or whipping cream.

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl until you get a kind of sticky dough that holds together in a ball. Adding 1/4 tsp. of salt is optional.

Now, you can pat the dough out and cut perfectly round biscuits from it, but to save time I just grab balls of dough right from the mixing bowl and pat them quickly into rounds using my hand. Not perfect, but easy and fast!

I arrange everything on an ungreased baking pan. Our cast iron flat Lodge griddle is great for even heat distribution and easy clean-up (it’s pre-seasoned). I also like that the exposed sides of the biscuit get a little bit browned.

Bake for 9-11 minutes and remove when they are lightly browned on top.

Enjoy with butter, jam, honey, fried chicken, whatever you like!

  4. Place on ungreased sheet pan and bake 9-11 minutes or until lightly browned.

Hi Anna, good question! I don’t think this one would adapt as written, because of the self-rising flour, which contains a couple of ingredients already mixed in, and includes the necessary binding agent. My suggestion is to Google King Arthur Flour’s gluten-free biscuit recipe, which uses their flour and egg for the binder. ~Anne
