As promised, here’s my review of the Nicki’s Diapers one-size cover. In case you missed it, check out my recent review of the sized pull-on cover.
You probably already know that besides carrying most of the popular cloth brands on the market, my affiliate Nicki’s Diapers has its own branded products. Their exclusive one-size diaper cover is a cute and very affordable choice if you like the wrap-style PUL covers.
The Nicki’s Diaper one-size cover is:
- Found exclusively at Nicki’s Diapers for $9.95 (solid colors) and $10.95 (prints), with FREE shipping
- Made of one layer of waterproof PUL with coordinating trim around the waist and leg openings
- Designed to be worn over flats, prefolds, fitteds, or any style that needs a waterproof outer layer
- Wipe and reuse on the inside
- Made with double leg gussets, two flaps on the inside to hold inserts, and crossover snaps at the waist for small/skinny babies
- Designed to fit from 8 to 35+ pounds
- Available in 18+ prints and 8 solid colors
- Covered by a 60 day warranty on workmanship and defects
- Made ethically in China
Once again, thanks is due to you all for doing your cloth diapering shopping using my affiliate link at Nicki’s Diapers. I purchased my review tester AND today’s prize (it’s a new print!) with your help.
Here is the cover opened up. The front flap is bigger than the back one.
This picture shows the double (second) gusset around each leg, which guards against blowouts.
Sizing: In our experience, this cover generally starts to fit best from about 10 to 12 pounds (Note: Nicki’s does have a separate newborn cover). I get a great fit both on Ingrid with her chubby legs and Erik with his very skinny ones. Overall, they run larger than some of my other one-size covers, including Best Bottoms (a sister company of Nicki’s). At 20 pounds, Ingrid wears it on the medium rise setting. Erik is about 27 pounds and wears it on large, with the rise completely unsnapped.
The size settings on this cover coordinate well with both sized and adjustable diapers like prefolds, flats and fitteds.
Here are the rise measurements, that is, the cover laid flat and measured from the top of the waistband, down the crotch and up to the back of the waistband.
Small – 14.5″
Medium – 16″
Large – 17″
Fit: Although roomy in the rear, overall this is a trim cover that won’t add much bulk. There’s lots of stretch around the waist and the PUL fabric is very soft and pliable. I’m really happy that the Nicki’s cover fits well on both of their body types (chubby and thin). If you’ll notice from the pictures below, the cover on Ingrid will sag a bit when she starts to get active. Her round, chubby tummy pushes it down. 🙂 On Erik, who’s very slim, this doesn’t happen at all.
Performance: Our Nicki’s covers are very well made with strong snaps and even stitches. We’ve used over 5 months in a regular rotation. The colors are still bright and I haven’t noticed any wear in terms of elastic, snaps or seams. There haven’t been any leaks, day or night. Because it’s one layer of waterproof PUL, this cover is quick to wash and dry. If it’s barely damp at a change, wipe it and hang up to freshen for an hour or so. Then you can re-use it again before washing.
Tip from the trenches: Be careful to check under the front and back flaps when dunking/rinsing a #2 diaper. Sometimes, stuff will be stuck under there!
Here are Ingrid and Erik in the “Nautical Nessie” print:
Based on our experience, I highly recommend the Nicki’s one-size diaper cover. You get a lot of useful features, reliable performance AND a huge variety of prints and colors to choose from, for less than $11.00 each.

I have been cloth diapering my 9 week old for about a month and a half now and I have a few of these covers. One of them the stitch has broken on the inside flap. Unfortunately I received the cover as a gift back in June so the warranty is up on it. I think I can fix it myself so I can continue to use the cover. I’m just kinda bummed about it.
Anne says
Hi Sarah, from among all the overwhelmingly positive reviews I’ve read, there have been a few comments about defects, and that usually means it’s just a fluke. With the warranty being 60 days, though, that may or may not be covered. It might be hard to tell if it’s a glitch or if it was accidentally damaged without your knowledge (i.e. it snagged on something in the wash) It might still be worth bringing to Nicki’s attention. They have great service! ~Anne
Sarah Sheffer says
To update you, I contacted them and they are going to send me a new one if I send this one back 🙂
Anne says
Thanks! I appreciate the update! ~Anne

I love Little Lady! It was the first diaper I ever pre-ordered. Love at first sight. It was also my first Nicki’s cover. I agree with you, it is a very well made cover. My favorite features are the front & back flaps to help keep an insert in place and the double leg gussets. Every time Astrid has worn her’s, she’s put those gussets to test! I like that Nicki’s provide quality diapers at an affordable price.
Anne says
Glad you love them, too, Geneveigh! ~Anne

I love the Planet Wise Diaper cover in Santa’s Farm that Nicki’s Diapers has for the holiday season!! I love so many of the different prints out now… cloth diapering is so much fun!
Emily Roth says
I tried out a Nicki’s pull on cover after your last review and love it! It’s helped my daughter wear underwear at night without me worrying about her whole bed getting soaked. I would love to try out a one size cover on my 6 month old… we just invested in a dozen bamboo flats so we could use more covers!
Anne says
Emily, so glad the review was helpful in your purchasing decision! Oh, and we love bamboo flats, too! ~Anne
Robyn Lehman says
I just pre-ordered Tinkering in a cover because I just couldn’t resist! I probably would have jumped on either one of these had I been on top of things then. I use mostly Best Bottoms and Thirsties cover but have been looking at trying a Nicki’s for a while! Thank you for the giveaway!!

I have heard that Nicki’s diapers are sized and cut similar to Blueberry’s coveralls, which I love over fitteds for nighttime. I would love to try one, especially in the adorable little ladies print!

We love Nicki’s covers! We use them over fitteds for nighttime and haven’t had any problems with leaking!

I came to the party late for Nicki’s covers, but they are LOVE! They fit great, with tons of room to grow. I love their modern prints, and they’ve been doing a great job of coming out with more to fit everyone’s tastes. The inner flaps are perfect and hold a prefold/flat/insert great without shifting, even on a very moveable 9 month old. I will never be able to share enough of my love for Nicki’s covers!
Anne says
Great observation on the prints – I agree, Megan! ~Anne
Grace Williquette Peters says

Courtney Arnold says
I love the Little Lady print, but my baby is a boy. Tie Guy is cute too, though! So far my favorite print is the new Little Dipper. I may just have to cave get one because it would be the perfect cover for night time! So far we’ve only used Nicki’s pockets, so I’d like to try the cover some day.
Anne says
I would love Little Dipper, too! Went on a buying spree this week so I hope it will still be in stock when I can justify the purchase. LOL ~Anne

love the new star print! these are great covers! we love ours!
Viv Sluys says
I’ve never used covers before (just pockets and aio diapers). I like the double gusset on the leg. These covers are so much more affordable than many covers I’ve seen. I like the idea of using covers; I was given a bunch of prefolds that I didn’t use on my last baby because I had no covers. I’m planning to get at least one cover before baby 4 arrives in 6weeks.
Anel says
Overall, I think They have super cute prints! I really like the exclusive from Blueberry With the fish on it! Thank you!
Karen W says
My favorite Nicki’s print is Little Dipper! I love everything space related and I adore the ‘extra’ constellation they added to it! We’ve yet to try Nicki’s covers (we have tried and like the pockets) and I missed out on the pre-order for these 2 prints, so thank you for the chance at winning one!
