Rumparooz (RaR, as fans often say) is a well-known, designed in the USA, cloth diapering brand. My experience so far had been limited to the newborn cover, which we used on Erik. This year, I’ve been trying out the one-size Rumparooz cover on Erik (who is almost 3) and Ingrid (13 months).
Here are the basic features of the Rumparooz one-size diaper cover:
- It’s made of waterproof thermally-bonded PUL.
- Both the back and the front of the waistband are elasticized.
- The inside is wipeable, which means you can reuse it a few times if it isn’t soiled with #2.
- The rise features 3 rows of snaps, which translates to 4 size settings (three snapped up and one completely open).
- The wings close with double snaps.
- Currently available in about 40 (yes you read that right!) different colors and prints, in snap or hook & loop closure
- Retail price is $14.00
- There are double gussets around the legs (a second, inner elasticized band)
- Warranty: 6 months
The print I chose is called Invader and has a retro-gamer design. Rumparooz diapers have a cute, molded plastic tag with the signature jumping kangaroo. Very cute!
Looking at the cover opened up, you can see there’s extra PUL fabric on the inside where the snaps are placed. There’s also a little waterproof patch that is placed right where the tag is sewn on, presumably to protect against wicking through the seams.
Here are pictures of the cover opened up at four different sizes, with different sizes of flats and prefolds for comparison:
Sizing: I would estimate the four rise settings to be small, medium, large and extra large. As mentioned above, Rumparooz does have a separate newborn cover.
Overall, the Rumparooz runs true to size in terms of a one-size diaper. Just like the newborn cover we used on Erik, however, there is a lot of extra fabric in the rear. As with other one-size diapers, you may have to wait a while for this one-size cover to fit and perform well on a petite or very thin baby. However, it also means Rumparooz is a brand I would highly recommend for chunky babies, for toddlers, and for wearing over thick diapers.
Fit: I like how the Rumparooz cover fits overall, but could do without the front elastic. On my smaller children, even after I get this cover fitting correctly, there’s still extra fabric in the rear and around the legs that sacrifices some visual appeal. Double snaps at the waist mean you can adjust around the legs and tummy separately. The PUL is very soft and pliable and the wings have a lot of stretch.
Here’s the Rumparooz cover on my two little ones. Ingrid is 13 months and short, but has very chubby legs and a round little tummy. The Rumparooz comfortably hugs all her little rolls just fine. 🙂
Erik’s my slim little toddler, who will be 3 this December. He’s wearing the rise at what I call “extra large,” with the cover completely unsnapped.
You can shop for Rumparooz diapers at many diaper stores; here a few of my affiliates:
Kelly’s Closet
Diaper Junction
Nicki’s Diapers
Sweetbottoms Baby Boutique
Dearest Diapers
Moms Milk Boutique
Diaper Safari
And here’s a quick summary of my thoughts on the Rumparooz one-size cover.
WHAT I LIKE BEST:
- The elastic is very strong while at the same time the leg openings are snug and comfortable.
- The thermally-bonded PUL is soft and pliable; the inside of the cover doesn’t feel sticky.
- The double snaps at the waist help to keep the wings from curling back, and the wings stretch generously for a good fit.
- The double gussets are great at holding in number two messes.
- The quality is outstanding, prints and colors are bright and appealing
- They are made in the USA.
- It’s a roomy cover that fits well over fitteds, prefolds, flats or whatever else I feel like putting inside.
- It’s performed great overnight with no leaking.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE AS MUCH: The front elastic is my least favorite feature on this cover because the fabric puckers and doesn’t stay flat. For us, it hasn’t improved fit or function because neither Erik nor Ingrid have the messy blow outs that come up the front of the diaper like in their early nursing days. But I do know that many mothers like the front elastic feature on a diaper. Since there aren’t any flaps in this cover to hold padfolded diapers or inserts in place, so I’ve found it performs much better when we’re using fitteds, or when we fasten the diapers on them a Boingo or Snappi.
As if there wasn’t already a huge selection of prints and colors, Rumparooz just recently announced yet another one! It’s an exclusive print to be revealed this Thursday, September 17th. UPDATE: Here it is!! A navy nautical print called “Admiral.”
Enter my giveaway for a Rumparooz one-size cover in your choice of in-stock prints and colors at Nickis’ Diapers! Open to my readers in both US and Canada. Good luck!
I love how it has both front and back elastic! That’s key to keeping messy poops contained. And I would pick Quinn with snaps.
Thanks for your feedback! Just goes to show that one feature that doesn’t work for me may make some other mama very happy. ~Anne
Maybe the front elastic works better since I snappi my flats and prefolds, and for your padfolded ones it bunches? (You also noted it worked better when you fasten your diapers.)
Maybe so, Rachel! We also have a few other brands with elastic in the front, but those don’t pucker as much. It’s mostly an aesthetic thing with me, I guess. ~Anne
I’ve always liked that invader print.
Love, love, love Rumparooz diapers! If I could afford it I’d have a whole stash only of Rumparooz. I’d love to win one with the Invader print, its so vibrant!
Thank you for the great review! I used RaRs on my newborn and liked them very much, but don’t have any in my stash right now since baby now fits the one-size comfortably. I’d love to add a Unity cover to it. 😉
I love double gussets and wipeable inside for our covers! We haven’t tried RaR yet so this is definitely one I’d love to try. My favorite print is Unity. So cute.
Also – I love Ingrid’s name!
Awww, thank you, Geneveigh! I love yours! ~Anne
I love my Thirsties Duo Wraps and I love my RaR pockets, does this mean I’d love RaR covers? 🙂 I hope so, because I’d love to try them!
I’ve been dying to get my hands on their Unity print! I love bumblebee ANYTHING and especially love RAR. My baby’s only 3 weeks old and hubby won’t let me #buyallthediapers so I’m patiently waiting for her bum to be big enough to snag me one in a OS. I would LOVE it if I could win this! <3 You have the best giveaways!
Samantha, thank you! Unity is a favorite with me, too! At one time we had a few bee hives. Congrats on the new baby! ~Anne
These are definitely on my list to try when this little girl decides to make her appearance. I’ve heard great things about the double gussets. All of their prints are adorable. It would be so hard to choose one. The solids are so nice in person too!
I like that it would very likely be a good fit for my thirteen month old as we start moving further into toddlerhood and potty training, especially with a new baby coming in January. (My babies tend to be a little below average in size.) I would probably have to go with Jeweled (although I like the owls too).
I’d get the perky perinneals if I won. 🙂
I would love to try out a Rumparooz cover! I am in love with the Charlie!
I love RaR’s Charlie, dexter, & Quinn prints!
I like the snap castle print.
We have one RAR pocket and I have never seen a cover! Love the print and your photos too. I’m a visual person and appreciate photos! I’m entering this for baby boy 4, I know our pocket is on the smaller spectrum of our diaper stash and I anticipate using it with him earlier then some of our other brands. I bet the cover is a similar size/cut. Thanks for the review/giveaway!
Thanks for the feedback, Jeanette! We have a pocket, too, but haven’t actually tried it yet. Very excited to share a review and giveaway of that as well this winter! ~Anne
I would choose Clyde in hook in loop. They have such great diapers.
My hubby is a firefighter and we don’t have one single firefighter diaper yet!!! So I’d choose Ladder 🙂
Also, I love covers, I have a heavy wetter and if wool isn’t otb it’s zorb inside shobf inside a cover.
I like the red hopscotch diaper print
I love Rumparooz covers. When my son was younger, they worked wonderfully over repurposed receiving blankets folded in the cover or trifolded prefolds. I now use them exclusively over fitteds, sometimes with an additional prefold trifolded at the bottom.
I think fitteds are definitely my favorite type of diaper to pair with RaR. ~Anne
i love quinn.
I would love the Charlie print!
There are so many colors that stand out to me, but I really am partial to Castle, Quinn, and Poppy. RaR definitely has my favorite color choices out of all of the diaper brands I’ve seen!
I love the To The Point print with snaps!
I love the Charlie print with snaps! I had one RaR cover and always liked their double gussets and the thickness of their covers. I love that they have newborn sizes too! I would love to try one of those someday. 🙂
I really hope I eventually get to try out this brand. I’d choose the Dexter print!
Charlie is my favorite print. Thanks for sharing your review of the OS cover. I’ve only tried the RaR newborn cover so far. It was my favorite newborn cover.
I would pick Crimson.
I love the Aquarius color — I think that’s what I would choose if I won!
Jeweled
I like the red hopscotch design. My boy loves this pattern in his toys.
Invader or preppy
Rumparooz seem like such a great diaper cover, with their double gussets and extra elastic. We would love to win a Scarlet one size diaper cover; it’s such a gorgeous bold red!
I’m so happy to have read this review as I have two RAR covers and have not been super impressed with them so far. I think they are great quality and absolutely have one of the best selections of colors/prints, however, I cannot seem to get a good fit on my little one (currently 3 months and ~13lbs) who is very lanky. I will keep them around to try them once he gets a bit bigger to see if that makes a difference. =)
Alix, I also had to wait a while to get a good fit. I think Ingrid was at least 6 months. She was small for her age. I’m really happy with the fit on Erik, maybe because even though he is skinny, he’s taller. And I find that this cover fits better with more diaper in it, rather than something very trim like some bamboo inserts or a jersey flat). ~Anne
It’s so hard to choose, but I think I would choose Scarlett if I won!
I really like the cover in both the Clyde and Unity prints.
Such a cute print
Awesome review. This would be our first RaR diaper if we were to win. Out of all the beautiful colors and prints, I think I would choose Destiny and definitely with snaps. Very pretty diaper that both our 2.5 month old daughter and 20 month old son can wear. 😉
Such a hard choice, there are so many fun prints! I think I’d like either Ladder 6 or Preppy the best!
Have not tried these, and probably wouldn’t have attempted until I saw this review. I don’t like any covers that have the PUL exposed since I don’t like that sticky feel and don’t want it on my kid. I am intrigued that you say it is not sticky or stiff and easy to wipe off.
I’m a hug Rar fan and I love JuJuBe so I would like to pick the Admiral print if I win!
I love the Admiral print!
The new Admiral print by RaR is ADORABLE! I’d love one of those!
I would go with the Nautical color. I’m interested in trying this cover in snap version. I have an aplix one that I just don’t like very much – the front elastic causes the aplix to rub up against her belly.
I love the colors of the diapers! I love that it fits soo many sizes!
I love the colors of the diaper!
I would definitely pick the print Ladder 6 for my dad, he’s a fireman and we still don’t have a fireman diaper 🙁 He’d get a real kick out of his grandson wearing a fireman diaper 🙂
I love Rumparooz! I want so many of their diapers. I think I would choose Clyde or Quinn.
I would definitely choose Jeweled
Love, love, love this print
I’d pick Dexter. We have a small plaid collection going and it would fit perfectly!
Admiral, Clyde, Charli, quinn all loves! I liked your review, I have never used these covers but know many who do love them. I do like covers with flaps to hold the prefold/flat in place, but one of these days I may have to try some fitteds 🙂
I love the Peacock color!
I would pick Dexter!
I’ve never tried Runmparooz, but I’ve only heard wonderful things. Quinn is my favorite print 🙂
Love the new Admiral print. I know it’s being marketed as a boy print, but I’d definitely put this on my girls!
Thanks for the review. Very helpful for me. I like the Bonnie print. Very cute.
I love rumparooz covers! They make up the bulk of our stash and work wonderfully!
I would definitely choose invader!! What an awesome print!!!
I would get the new admiral print! 🙂
Admiral and unity are very cute. There are a lot of cute prints.
This brand of diaper were the only ones that fit my lo as a newborn… and I still love them now that she has grown out of newborn size! I think they fit her so well and do a great job holding in messes. I only have two, but would love to add admiral to my stash. My husband is in the navy, so it would be a perfect fit for her!
Please thank your husband for serving, Courtney! I also think the Admiral print is smashing! ~Anne
I would choose phantom
I like Clyde and Admiral prints, not sure which to pick! Haven’t tried RaR, so many different brands, too little $! Thanks Anne for the giveaways 😀 Your Ingrid looks almost exactly like my Stephen, I should send you a picture.
I would love to see Stephen, Michelle! 🙂
I would pick Admiral, of course!!
I would love to try one of these. We love our rumparooz pocket diaper. It is one of our go to diapers. I love their prints lately… especially the new one.
Thanks for the giveaway. I have always wanted to try Rumparooz. I love their prints. If i win i would choose the Admiral print or Destiny. I love destiny print and Perky Perenials.
Would perky perennials count? Ah, I love that print!
love love love admiral print!!
Cute kids! Love the giveaway.
I can’t wait to cloth diaper my little man! Ian Everett is due Feb 7th. It’s so hard to pick between all of the adorable prints!! I cloth diapered w/ my daughter, but only did for a few months… Still a newbie, but hubby and I are committed to exclusively CD with our little man this time around! 🙂
I am in love with the Clyde print!
I love the Charlie print!
I love the new Admiral cover from RaR!
I’m a huge fan of Rumparooz diapers! The pockets fit my little girl early on when others were still way too big. Now I have a few covers, love them too! I love the new print (Admiral) and would choose it if I win! 🙂 Thanks for a great giveaway!
I love as easy clean up, so my favorite feature is the wipe able inside. It’s very convenient. I also like there is room in the diaper to hold bulky items like fitteds! So many cute prints to choose; I like Scarlet!
If I won I would definitely choose jewelled! It would be so cute on my baby girl. Thank you for the review. I have never tried these covers although I have a few rumparooz pockets and like them
I would love a RARz Ahoy print! 🙂
I’d pick invader!!! My 9 week old just outgrew our newborn size invader and I was heartbroken!!
I like the Charlie print. I mostly have pockets right now but I’m looking to complete my stash (by January) with some covers and flats.
I really like the new Admiral print as well as the Preppy print.
I’d love to try the covers! Right now I have about 18 of the OS pockets by RaR! I’d probably do the new Admiral or the invader. Those are the two prints I don’t have!
This diaper cover looks great! I love that it’s a one size. I’d love the Snap Aquarius , or peacock! I love all the colors and prints to choose from!!
Too many awesome prints to choose from! Unity, preppy, quinn….I want them all!!
I’d pick Poppy Snap.
Thank you for the great review. I am going to look for more of your reviews when researching other diaper brands.
I appreciate that, Katie! ~Anne
I would love to get the admiral print!
This was a great review. I love Rumparooz. I have only used their pocket diapers but I would love to try the covers! I think I would choose Clyde or Lux.
I love them all! To hard to pick ~ girly everything!
I like the chevron print and the navy blue with the little anchors- so cute for my little man!
