There’s a lot to love about vintage toys: visual appeal, classic themes and sticking power. If something has been around for 50 years (or more!) and children are still enjoying it, that’s a pretty powerful testimony.
The people at Tin Toy Arcade love classic toys, too. From simple wooden rubber band guns to Sea Monkeys to tin tanks and cars, you’ll find toys that you enjoyed as a child, plus many new ones that are just waiting to be discovered. Tin Toy Arcade offered to send a complimentary selection of toys for our boys to review. It took a long time to settle on some things because the selection is very extensive, but here’s what they picked:
- The Martian Invader, retail $18.98
- The Double Black Cowboy Set, which includes two guns, two holsters and a belt, retail $27.98
- The Wild West Cowboy Cap Gun, retail $10.98
Benjamin (age 7) lobbied hard for the Martian Invader. He wanted to use it to attack his toy Army soldiers. Gotta have something really big for those tanks to shoot at, right?
At close to 10 inches high, the red Martian is a formidable enemy. With his spidery legs, bulging eyes and bulbous head, he definitely could have walked straight out of a 1950’s sci-fi flick. Oh how I love retro sci-fi movies!! But I digress…..
There’s a little metal key that winds up the Martian, and then he’ll walk along any smooth surface with a strange, ambling gait. You have to be very careful with excited toddlers who can easily bend the delicate legs, however. When his legs are “wounded,” Mr. Martian doesn’t walk so well. 😉 Fortunately, they are very easy to position back in place.
What is there to say about cowboy pistols except that they are very nearly an inevitable rite of passage for many American boys? Our Tin Toy Arcade pistols are very good quality, and I am comparing them to many pistols we’ve bought over the years for our boys from many different stores. Â The metal is heavy and durable. The details are very authentic, at least for a young gunslinger. They fit nicely in the hand and the triggers fire smoothly. Did I mention these cap guns are accurate? Or so the boys tell me as they point to the latest victim lying in the dust.
Role-playing is a cinch with authentic-looking firearms like this. We had just recently watch The Magnificent Seven and they were ready to go!
I mentioned before that it took a while for the boys to chose. That’s because there are thousands of toys available at Tin Toy Arcade. You can search by catergory, age group or theme, making it easier to find something your children will love. Because of the huge selection, you’ll find plenty of toys less than $10, and many under$5. It’s a great place to pick up gifts and stocking stuffers. And many of the toys are made in the USA.
Tin Toy Arcade offers a 60-day money back guarantee. One of the pistols in our double black set had a faulty trigger; as soon as we alerted Tin Toy Arcade of the problem, and a replacement gun was immediately tested and mailed out to us within a few days! You can read more reviews from their customers here.

I went to their website and they have a lot of cool stuff! I really like the toy record player. My son loves when I play music from mine; it would be neat if he had his own. I love that your kitty is in the picture! Too cute!

Yes! The robot and the rocket ship especially. I think these toys create and inspire so much imagination. I know my boys would have so much fun with these, and I personally enjoy having them around. They’re even nice to have on display. The Martian toy you have is great too, love them all! It really highlights how much toys have changed over the years. It seems like we’re replaced toys like these with more high-tech gadgets, but I think we’re really missing out. Love to see that these are for sale!

Isn’t that rocket neat? I was so glad to find this site, too. You and your boys could spend hours there. LOL ~Anne
