Thanks to my friends Jess and Whitney, the Moody Sisters, we recently got to try outa complimentary lavender-scented assortment from the Bath & Body line-up, which included a fizzy bath bomb, a bar of handmade soap and a pump bottle of body wash.
My toddlers gave the bath bomb a test drive right away. It fizzes and bubbles and releases therapeutic ingredients (and a wonderful fragrance) when you set it in the water. What fun! You can choose from Dreamy Orange, Moody Mint Julep, Perky Pink Grapefruit, Lovely Lavender and Chai Delight. Each 5 oz. bath bomb is $5.50 and is made from baking soda, arrowroot powder, citric acid, rice bran oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, distilled water and essential oils.
The handmade soap is available in the same scents; opt for either the 2 oz. ($3.50) or 4 oz. ($6.50) size.
Moody Sisters soap features gentle ingredients that do not strip your skin of moisture. The base is saponified oil (olive oil, distilled water, coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter and castor oil) with pure essential oils and mica added. It’s 100% natural, organic and vegan. Either size works as a hand soap or bath bar.
With its unique swirled patterns and rough cut edge, this soap is definitely very artistic – a treat for your skin, your nose….and your eyes. I like to set it out when we have company (and it would make a nice baby shower or wedding gift). I have tried a lot of handmade soap over the years (my sister makes it), and I can assure you this is the good stuff. It holds its shape, makes a rich and creamy lather and lasts a good long while. I recommend that you store it on a wooden holder so it can dry properly, last longer and look better.
And now the foaming body wash, which comes in a convenient 8 oz. pump bottle and retails for $16.50 (on sale right now for $12.50). You get to select from the scents mentioned above. In addition to oils of safflower, avocado, coconut and palm, goat’s milk plays a starring role and gives it extra moisturizing powers. I actually ended up using it more as a hand soap rather than in the shower. I had to use a lot of the product to get a sufficient lather, but at the sink it was a perfect hand wash. Winter weather and frequent hand-washing (thanks to caring for seven children, one dog, four cats and twenty-five chickens!) are not kind to my hands. I’m really happy with this gentle but luxurious goat’s milk soap and would love to try some other scents.
And there’s a giveaway! Moody Sisters is going to give away a soap set to TWO winners; it includes a mega handmade bar of soap and a travel-size body wash. Open to both US and Canada, this giveaway ends April 2nd. Good luck!

Anne says
Yes, they are!
Cowgirl Mama says
Wow sounds like some awesome soap!
One question I do have is what grade of essential oil they use for their lavender soaps? (IE perfume or therapeutic ) thanks!
Anne says
Moody Sisters uses 100% pure cold-pressed essential oils from US suppliers. No fragrance oils are used. And I wanted to share this note with you from Jess and Whitney: “We find that most essential oils marked as “Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade” are actually from large corporate brands that have trademarked that phrase, as there is no standard for certifying or grading essential oils currently in place….We try whenever possible to support other small businesses in the USA.” ~Anne
Cowgirl Mama says
Awesome thanks! That’s exactly what I was hoping to hear!
Hannah C. says
I’ve used homemade soap in the past, but it’s been a long time… I’d love to experience them again. 🙂
Toni Marie Caravello says
How do they get the cool swirled pattern and are there any sandalwood scents?
Anne says
Toni, when my sister made soap she would layer the different colors and then swirl them with a coat hanger or even a spoon, but I don’t know exactly what the Moody Sisters secret is! Sandalwood is not yet a scent option, but that’s a lovely suggestion. ~Anne
