Are you teaching someone to use the words “please” and “thank you” right now? Here’s a cute little book that will help reinforce the importance of good manners. Ideals Books sent me a complimentary review copy of The Berenstain Bears’ Please & Thank You Book. It’s written by Mike Berenstain, the son of Stan and Jan Berenstain. Thanks to their son, we can keep on enjoying more stories and adventures from the beloved family who lives in a cozy tree house in Bear Country.
The Berenstain Bears Please & Thank You board book is very sturdy and measures about 6 inches square. It’s a good size for small hands and with 20 pages makes for a quick and enjoyable read.
You can see from the illustrations that there has been a near seamless transition from parents to son. These are the familiar characters we all grew up with.
The story begins with Brother, Sister and Honey (their little sister, a new addition) being irresistibly drawn to the kitchen while Mama is baking chocolate cookies. But Mama is disappointed by their lack of manners. She gently and lovingly teaches them how to say “please” and “thank you” in the proper situations. Father Bear is nearby to set an example and instruct the cubs, too.
After I read the book aloud one time, everyone wanted a chance to enjoy it independently. Today, Susanna was showing Benjamin her favorite parts:

I like that they teach great life lessons in a fun way.
