It’s not often that I can make a meal in 5 minutes, but I was given the chance to try Seeds of Change organic rice blends and was able to whip up something tasty and wholesome in a very short amount of time.
Seeds of Change organic sides and simmer sauces are easy to cook with and feature lots of flavorful and exotic herbs and spices. Seeds of Change was founded in 1989 for the purpose of making organic seeds more widely available. They’ve also had a hand in preserving many valuable heirloom fruit and vegetable varieties.
I picked the Spanish Style Rice for my recipe; it contains whole grain brown rice, quinoa and a blend of vegetables, herbs and spices. There are no preservatives, no artificial flavors, and each serving is 260 calories. It comes in a little pouch, ready to “heat and eat.”
It was the perfect base for a quick Lenten/vegetarian meal. The flavors in the Spanish Style Rice paired well with the red pepper and broccoli shreds that I tossed in. Because the Seeds of Change sides are already seasoned, there’s not much else you have to do besides heat them up….and enjoy. Add in whatever you want – meat, veggies, etc. – or just experience the rice as is.
Here’s my recipe:
- 2 T extra virgin olive oil
- 1 T minced garlic
- 1 cup broccoli shreds or small florets
- 1 red pepper, diced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 pkgs. Seeds of Change Spanish Style Rice
- 2 T water
- Heat olive oil in skillet on medium high. Add broccoli and red pepper and saute for about 3 minutes.
- Add garlic and rice and water; saute for 1 minute more, or until heated through. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Enjoy!
As two people who love zesty food and exotic spices, my husband and I liked the Spanish Style Rice, but would be even happier if the flavors were a little more pronounced. Since each serves roughly 1 person, it’s not the type of product that I can incorporate into our meals on a regular basis (with seven children). I would enjoy it best as a quick and healthy lunch for myself, or something for my husband to take to work. Seeds of Change rice sides are also the perfect way to use up a little bit of leftover meat, fish or veggies that you might have on hand.

You’re welcome, Anel! Enjoy, and give lil’ Jaxon a hug from me. ~Anne
I am absolutely going to look for this in Canada. The pre-packaged Spanish rice I normally buy is full of lots of junk!
The one we usually buy probably has way too much sodium. I hope your search is fruitful, Lindsay! ~Anne
This looks like something my husband would really like. I think shrimp would be awesome with this.
Great idea, Melissa! ~Anne
I can’t wait to try this recipe, I just can’t get spanish rice right and you need good spanish rice to go on the side of enchiladas to make a meal complete.
5 minutes?!? Can’t go wrong with that! Looks really yummy too.
Looks tasty! Love adding a ton more veggies!
Yumm! I can’t believe this is so quick. I need meals like this-can’t wait to give it a go. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this – I’m always looking for quick and tasty weeknight dinners.
