What’s colorful, trim-fitting, versatile and only $7.95? The Diaper Junction (aff) one-size cover! I’ve been really impressed with my purchase of a few months ago and wanted to share a review with you, just in case you’re on the fence about this product.
For my Diaper Junction review, I chose the Cobalt color, a nice deep blue that looks pretty sharp on both my guy and my gal.
Here are the basic features of the Diaper Junction brand diaper cover:
- It’s made of waterproof TPU. TPU is slightly softer and more pliable than PUL.
- The inside of the cover has a flap at the front and back to help secure inserts or diapers. The back flap is elasticized for even better performance.
- The inside is wipeable, which means you can reuse it a few times if it isn’t soiled with #2.
- The rise features 3 rows of snaps, which translates to 4 size settings (three snapped up and one completely open).
- The wings close with 1 snap and then have 2 additional hip snaps for further adjustment.
- The snaps are covered on the inside with a thin white piece of fabric.
After about four months of regular use, here’s my feedback.
WHAT I LIKE:
- The TPU fabric is silky smooth and makes for a very trim-fitting cover. It’s a little thinner than some of my other covers, and for that reason I was hesitant at first, but it has performed just as well.
- The covers has washed and worn extremely well, with absolutely no visible wear or fading of colors.
- The leg elastics are snug and comfortable and haven’t loosened up at all.
- It fits well on both my 1 year old and my 2 year old, although I’ve been using almost exclusively on the younger one.
- The wings are nice and stretchy.
- It’s a roomy cover that fits well over fitteds, prefolds, flats or whatever else I feel like putting inside. Sizing is very comparable to a Flip diaper cover, with the only noticeable difference being the wing style and roominess in the rear (DJ cover is a bit more generous).
- It’s performed great overnight.
- The elastic sewn inside the back flap helps hold inserts in place better (in my opinion) than other covers with regular flaps.
- You can choose from 12 different colors!
- It’s only $7.95.
WHAT I WOULD CHANGE
- Looking at the photo above, you can see how the snaps on the waistband are angled somewhat, and not straight up and down. This is the only thing I would change about the cover – to have the snaps straight up and down. Every once in a while, I feel like I can’t quite get the exact fit I want with the waist snaps.
This is the Diaper Junction cover on Erik; in this picture he is about 14 months old and 21 pounds. Scroll down to the end of the post for a picture of the cover on a toddler.
These would make an ideal cover choice if you’re working on building a budget stash. My recommendation? Pair these Diaper Junction covers with Diaper Rite flats (also a DJ product). Diaper Rite birdseye cotton flats are sold in packs of twelve; you can choose from sizes small (27×27) and large (32×32) – measurements are prior to washing and drying. I bought unbleached Diaper Rite flats, since they are softer than the standard white. Flats are just one big square layer of fabric, so they wash and rinse out fantastically and dry super quick. I have a dozen of the smalls, and typical of cotton, they do not shrink up perfectly after the initial prepping. That is, they aren’t perfect squares, but they’re close. After you fold them up it doesn’t really make a difference anyway.
Small flats are $21.95 for a dozen, so that comes to $1.83 per diaper; one dozen larges are $26.95, bringing the cost per diaper to $2.25. Super economical!
There are two very easy ways to use Diaper Rite flats with the Diaper Junction covers. Pad-fold the flat (click here for quickie tutorial) and insert into the flaps of the cover:
Or try this simple fold with a Boingo or Snappi fastener if containment of messy poo is a going concern. This flat fold is one of the easiest you’ll find (sorry, I don’t do Origami, Kite, Mini Kite or Adapted Kite – LOL). It doesn’t even have a name that I know of. I call my creation the Custom Fold because you pick the width and length that you want.
There are only 4 steps. Easy, easy, easy!
Something else I really love about my soft unbleached flats: in a pinch I can grab them for other uses – burp cloth, clean up cloth or even an emergency changing mat for our bed (folded in half). Fitted diapers, AIO’s and pocket diapers just aren’t that versatile.
If you are thinking of grabbing a few of these bargain covers for your little one, here are the vibrant colors you get to pick from!
A closer look at the two new colors (Rainforest and Antigua) plus my favorite of the new prints – Scottie!

I love the idea of flats with a diaper cover, especially how economical it could be. I really like the County Fair and Rainforest prints!
Jessica Hughes says
I have never tried flats before! They seem intimidating, which I guess is silly considering it’s a single piece of cloth. 😉 I love Scottie and Amethyst!
sherry blamer says
I would choose the scotty and the odyssy.
Tracy Gordon says
I would choose rainforest and odyssey if I won.
Claire Rheinheimer says
I just bought a DJ cover because it was only $7.95, and after I read the reviews I thought I’d try it (I’m a die hard BG fan). I absolutely love it! I’m definitely going to order more. It’s better than anything I’ve used for nighttime for my 3 year old son, who is a super heavy wetter. Honestly as thin as the cover is, when I got it I didn’t have much hope for it. I was wrong! It’s seriously awesome! I used a prefold and a bamboo insert in it for at night and haven’t had a single leak. I’m amazed! I think for the price this is the most economical cover I’ve run across without giving up quality.
Anne says
I completely, agree, Claire! Was a bit hesitant at first given the price and the fabric compared to some of my other PUL covers – but I’m a BIG fan now! ~Anne
Stephanie Grick says
I have enjoyed using covers and flats so far (I am new to cloth diapering). They are one of my favorites and I love the price! I would choose the Amethyst and Antigua!

We’re expecting our first in December. I’m getting some flats and I’d love to try a cover like this with them! I have a thing for orange so I like the Electric Carrot colour and I also do Scottish dancing so the Scottie print would also be sweet!

We use prefold and covers, but I’ve been wanting to try flats. Love the color rainforest and the print county fair!

I don’t know what took me so long to try flats. They’re one of my go-to diapers right now. Simple pad fold in a cover is so trim I don’t even use my prefolds anymore. I think I’d choose either the Antigua or Scotty.
Anne says
Same here, Julie! I put off trying them for years, and now have switched all my prefolds to flats. ~Anne

Becky says
I am very curious to try covers, I’ve always used pockets. The ocean melody print looks really nice!
Cindy G says
I love Timberwolf and Amethyst! I’ve been practicing cloth on my mostly potty trained 2 y/o but don’t think I have it down correctly. Are covers a more simple way to cloth because I notice it’s what most experienced mamas turn to.
Anne says
Hi Cindy! Covers are definitely a popular choice, and for several reasons. First of all, they are 100% waterproof and for most you can wipe the cover clean to “freshen” it and use again, whereas a fleece-lined pocket must be washed as soon as it’s wet. Secondly, covers are very economical. You can buy just a few (4 to 6) to start a stash, instead of having to buy 12 or even 24 pocket diapers. Thirdly, the most common inserts to use with covers (flats and prefolds) are also very cheap – just $2 dollars or so each. I think mothers also like that there are so many brands of covers on the market – lots of choices make it fun AND easy to find the perfect fit! ~Anne
Sarah Hayes says
covers and flats are my favorite system and I wish Id used them from day 1.
Ashley Seymour says
I likd the Odyssey and the Antigua covers!
Melissa E says
I love flats because you can really customize the fold to your child’s gender and body. Not to mention they’re cheap and hang dry more quickly! I’d choose gender neutral color, if possible. I like to get the most usage out of things so I don’t tend to get boy or girl colors.
Colleen Maurina says
We like covers and flats because they are so quick and easy with squirmy babies! I would choose the Turtle and Pacific colors.

Laurie P says
Covers and flats are our usual diapers these days…loving the new colors, Antigua and Rainforest!! Odyssey looks pretty cool too!
Jamie Moore says
I love bright solid colors that go with everything. Right now I need snap covers since my son has learned to pull open his Velcro covers when he’s feeling sassy. I’ve never used flats. I’m a prefold girl mostly. I basically pad fold and go. But the flat you showed pad folded looks trimmer to me. And softer.
Anne says
Hi Jamie! I used prefolds primarily for a while, but did find that flats are easier than I thought, and yes – the unbleached ones are so soft! Plus, I love how quickly flats dry. ~Anne

Steph M says
Are flats more work? Do you like that better than floding?
Anne says
Steph, I haven’t found that flat diapers are difficult at all. And this is coming from someone who avoided them for years thinking they would be complicated. The pad fold is very easy; it takes me about 10 seconds. Not much more than folding a prefold in thirds. ~Anne

The old DiaperRite covers (which got renamed Diaper Junction covers a couple months after I bought them) & flats make up the vast majority of my stash. They are SO versatile! I like that they hold padfolded flats so much more securely than Flips – with a wriggly squiggly 1.5 yr old, it comes in handy.

eleanor says
I like the Cobalt and the Monsters
Ashley F says
I LOVE covers and flats! We’ve tried just about every kind of diaper/cover and combination thereof over the past two years of using cloth. Most recently, I have switched to using mostly flats and covers as they are so easy to get clean (with dreaded toddler pee) and since they are natural fibers they feel wet, so my toddler is starting to make the association of peeing with being wet. Also, I LOVE drying them on the line!
Michaele says
I love blitzed and odyssey!

shana trahan says
I love odyssy and my husband likes monsters. I’ve been using a lot of flats lately. I buy the flour sack towels for a dollar each and they work great. I wonder though, how soon do you find the elastic wears out in the legs and waist of your covers? My son just turned two, and it seems all my covers are stretched, and I dont know how they would do on a second baby.
Anne says
Shana, I’ve found that it can depend on the brand and sometimes even the batch of covers. I have many Flip covers, but for some reason, a few of the one new ones I bought that were “made in Egypt” had the elastic wear out sooner than I expected – about 1 year. My Sweet Pea covers have never had this problem. I think it also makes a difference if you have a larger rotation of covers, instead of washing just a few of them over and over and over again. ~Anne
Erin B. says
I would choose Odyssey and Blitzed!
ashley says
rainforest and odyssey 🙂
