Are you looking for a hearty but easy dish to prepare for your family on a cold day? Manwich sauces can be a versatile mealtime solution for your busy family. I hope you like this recipe I created which uses Manwich sauce in a new and different way. You can also check out their website for more Manwich Recipes.
The folks at Manwich sent us samples of their Original, Bold and Thick & Chunky sloppy joe sauces:
Since we’ve enjoyed Original Manwich in the past over hamburger buns, I was eager to see how the other varieties tasted. After trying both, my husband and I felt that Bold has more flavor and kick, while Thick & Chunky is pretty much like Original but with added onions and peppers. Since Bold was zestier, I decided to use it my recipe. Bold has added ingredients like Worchestershire, mustard, molasses and natural smoke flavoring.
My children helped me to create an original dish we named “Tex Mex Cornbread and Beef.” Preparation is simple and straightforward: mix up a batch of homemade cornbread and then prepare ground beef and Manwich on the stove top. Serve by cutting up squares of the hot cornbread and spooning zesty Manwich beef on top. Paired with fruit and a green salad on the side, this makes for a very hearty and delicious meal!
Here is the recipe:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 can (16 oz) Bold Manwich Sloppy Joe sauce
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 2 cups self rising corn meal mix
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 can creamed corn
- 1 small can chopped green chiles
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- Preheat oven to 400.
- In a skillet, brown ground beef until cooked thoroughly. Crumble and drain.
- Add Manwich and cumin, mix and heat through. Keep warm on stove top.
- In a large bowl, add corn meal, milk, oil, eggs, corn, chiles, spices and cheese.
- Pour into a 9x13 baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
- Cut cornbread into squares and spoon beef and sauce over the top.
The entire family enjoyed this recipe, with the exception of Joseph who said although it was very tasty, he wished there weren’t “chunks” of onions and peppers in the Manwich sauce. This seems to be is a common complaint from children…..one that I remember telling my own mother when growing up! (“Please mama, can you use onion powder and not chopped onions??”) Personally, my only improvement would be for Manwich to cut down on the sweetness just a bit. I would prefer that there was no high fructose corn syrup in the sauces.
Have you ever tried Manwich sauces in a different way besides sloppy joes? And have you checked out some of their latest funny Manwich TV Ads? I’d love to hear YOUR quick weeknight mealtime solutions!

This sounds so yummy since I’ve been looking for new recipes too. My quick recipe is usually broccoli cheddar soup or enchilada casserole.

This sounds and looks so good – too bad my husband doesn’t like cornbread. 🙁 Grr!

I use Jiffy mix alot. Would it taste good with this recipe, do you think?

I think so, if that’s your taste preference. The cornbread recipe I posted is not as sweet as Jiffy, and has a kick of flavor thanks to the chilies and cheese. ~Anne
