It may be hard to believe, but I only just now discovered teething and nursing necklaces after having six children! How did I miss such a cute and useful item? H3idiho Designs is a neat little shop on Etsy where you’ll find a huge selection of natural teething and nursing necklaces and teething toys for children. Heidi, the talented mother of 3 boys who began this unique shop, promises that every necklace and teether is safe and affordable.

Heidi graciously sent me her natural maple wood and blue lapis necklace to test. I took a close-up so you could see how beautiful the natural wood and blue stone are:

I wore it just the other day with my blue peasant blouse and they looked really pretty together!

Heidi decided to start making her own nursing necklaces because many of the products she found while initially shopping were made with waxed or dyed cords, had beeswax finishes and were very expensive. But you can be sure that everything Heidi crafts is 100% natural and/or organic. “Our wood is sustainable organic maple or birch wood from Maine and is left unfinished or finished only with organic Grape-seed oil. Our stones are all natural non-dyed stones. The cords we use on our necklaces are natural & organic and without toxic finishes.” And of course, “Everything is NON-TOXIC and safe for baby to put in their mouth.”

The ultimate test of Heidi’s necklace for me was church on Sunday. Whether it’s Samuel or Susanna that I’m holding during the service, both can’t get enough of tugging and pulling on my hair, my earrings, my veil, my hat, my scarf, or pretty much anything that’s within reach of their tiny hands. But from the moment both of them saw this around my neck, they were completely fascinated. And how nice to be able to grab it and put it straight in your mouth without a disapproving look from your mother!

My necklace has also been great for nursing (which is another time that mothers get pulled and tugged on by their babies). The H3idiho necklaces are easily adjustable so you can make it a little longer when nursing and it’s perfectly within baby’s reach.
