Wallypop Fleecy Wraps Diaper Covers Review
I have been using Wallypop fleecy wrap covers for about a year now and love them for many reasons. They are made with thick quality Malden Mills fleece which makes all the difference. Plus, the wide touchtape tabs and soft stretchy waistband and gussets ensure a great fit on my son every time. And the generous design of these covers will accommodate and hold in anything you want to “pack” in there – fitteds, flats, prefolds plus doublers, inserts, etc.
One really great thing you’ll discover when using fleece covers is that you don’t have to worry about red marks on your child’s legs and waist from the stretchy bands. If you’ve got the right size fleece cover then rest assured that the soft and cozy fabric will be kind to their skin.
Even better, you can order the wraps in lightweight, midweight or heavyweight fleece depending on your needs. I have two ice blue lightweights that are perfect for daytime use, even in the summer (fleece is breathable), and three mid and heavyweights in pine, navy and rust that work for nighttime.
To use my Wallypop fleecy wraps, I first lay in a prefold.
Sometimes I wrap a microfiber insert inside the prefold for more soaking power.
This is what it looks like on my son:
I don’t obsess about getting a “low rise” or “bikini fit” under the belly button. With the higher rise, there’s no problem with stomach constriction or discomfort as long as your diaper cover is properly sized and has a comfortable waistband (fleece is soft and kind to the skin).
My 6th child is due this August and I’ve already purchased a few of the very economical Wallypop PUL covers to try for the first time. I can hardly wait! For now, I have to content myself with trying them out on my daughter’s baby dolls.
I love supporting Wallypop because it’s a small WAHM business that offers tried-and-true cloth diapering products, prompt and personal service and even custom work if you don’t see exactly what you want.

Just so you know Microfiber is really drying and you shouldn’t put it right up against your baby’s skin. It can cause irritation. I would wrap it in the prefold and then lay that in!!

I had not thought of fleece yet as a cover option. Thanks for reviewing these!

My 9 month old has had non-stop diaper rash for a while now so after deciding to strip his inserts with RLR, switch detergents from Charlie’s to Nellie’s and selling his old PUL covers I’ve been researching fleece covers in the hopes that a more breathable cover will be better for him. I’m torn between the Wallpops and another WAHM brand called Twinkletoes. They’re a bit cheaper and although they don’t use Malden Mills fleece (she uses an antipill fleece) she can add a Windpro layer for an extra $5. Do you, or anyone you know, know anything about Twinkletoes? Have anything to say as far as pros/cons? I really want to order something soon, but am unsure which. He’s in disposables for now until this rash goes away and I’m hoping the stripping and switching detergents and covers will keep the rash away. He’s been in them for a while now and still has it though. We go to the pedi on Friday and I’m praying she can shed some light on getting rid of it. In the meantime what to buy?! My hubby is already losing patience with my cloth diapering and is sick of hearing me obsess about it (heck, I’m sick of obsessing about it) so I really need this to work!!! Thanks for any info you can provide!

Jessica, have you considered switching to a more mainstream detergent (like Purex, Tide, Gain, etc) to ensure that your diapers are getting thoroughly cleaned? Just a thought. Also, what type of inserts are you using?
I wish I had some feedback on Twinkletoes, but my experience with fleece covers is limited to Wallypop, and I was really pleased with the quality and performance. I can post something on Facebook and see if any of my readers has used this brand, and let you know. ~Anne

I was going to go with Tide but my husband doesn’t want me to. He’s sensitive to it so fears the baby will be as well. As for the others I was looking through blogs, forums and different cd sites and found 2 sites that have detergent charts which showed they weren’t the best choice. I read a lot of good things about Nellie’s, most importantly that it works well with my hard well water, plus it got a B rating with the EWG and a rating of 10 from GoodGuide. Hence my decision. I’ve not used it yet though. I ordered it and am still waiting for it to come. My fingers are crossed that it does the job.
My inserts are varied, a few organic cotton and a few stay dry microfibers from Flip, a bunch of bamboos from Naturally Nature (those I mostly use), a few Hemp Babies doublers but those don’t ever touch him and a few Kissaluv cotton/knit terry doublers. I think the issue was detergent buildup from the Charlie’s that irritated him, I’ve heard Charlie’s does that after time, but I’m not 100% sure. Especially as he’s been in sposies for a while and still has the rash. We’ll see what the pedi says tomorrow but I don’t think she has a lot of experience with cloth diapered babies so I’m not very optimistic.
Any feedback you can get on the Twinkletoes would be welcome, I’ll keep an eye on your FB page. And again, thank you!

Whatever detergent that you feel works best with your water is what you should go with. Using a mainstream detergent is just a suggestion based on a lot of positive feedback over the years from cloth diaper users. I’ve done both myself (both mainstream and natural).
Buildup could definitely be an issue. Sometimes it’s a baby that’s just really sensitive to wetness, but since you said stay dry disposables haven’t calmed it, then that theory is out. Have you ruled out yeast rash? It tends to be very persistent and long-lasting. Other possible causes might be allergy, food sensitivity (if he’s eating solids now) and even teething or a cold (excess saliva can irritate the bum terribly).
I may get a Twinkletoes cover so I can post a review at some point.

Ugh! This is trying!!! But I won’t quit cloth! After all the time, energy and money spent I have to see this through. And I know once this is over it’ll be better for him and the environment. Fortunately, the rash isn’t something really bad that’s causing him discomfort. It doesn’t even have bumps or anything like that. It’s just varying shades of pink to red in his groin area and a bit on his upper inner thigh, nothing on the bum though. I too thought it might be yeast because of how long its been around but after looking up pics of all the different types of rashes I ruled that out, doesn’t look at all like it or smell yeasty. What looks most similar is build up irritation. Next thing I’m going to do is start making my own wipes with some baby oil, his soap and my husband’s old cotton Hanes shirts. Wipes are the only thing that’s remained constant so it’s time to get rid of them as well.
As for your other suggestions my husband thinks the redness coincided with him teething, I can’t remember though. I feel like he’s had it forever but can’t remember if it was before starting solids or teething. Anyway thank you for listening to me blather on about this. I appreciate the help! Good luck reviewing the Twinkletoes. Please email me if you do, I’d love to know what you think.

I know how frustrated you feel! We’ve also dealt with persistent rash at one time or another, and it wasn’t always the same cause. Gah!! It can make you want to tear your hair out! Your determination to stick with it is very admirable, and I’m glad to help or just listen. Please keep me updated, and I will let you know what I find out about the fleece covers. ~Anne

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know the rash turned out to be sensitive skin. It wasn’t anything I was or wasn’t doing after all. Pediatrician said to put some 1% cortisone ointment on it and call her if it doesn’t clear up in 7-10 days. Well that was Friday afternoon and the redness is almost gone now. All that driving myself mad over my diapers and completely starting from scratch for nothing. Oh well, I suppose it doesn’t hurt to strip them anyway. Especially after using the Charlie’s soap for so long then finding out it causes buildup. He’s still in disposables for now while he’s using the ointment and until we get our new Twinkletoes. I was very tempted by the Wallypops but just couldn’t resist those adorable prints Twinketoes comes in so I got the 6 pack with the Windpro layer on 3 of them. We’ll see how they work out. Thanks for following me on this! God bless 😃
