For as long as I can remember, my mother has painted. And though I didn’t inherit her gift of artistic expression, I deeply appreciate beautiful art. That’s why I’m so thrilled she’s sharing her original oil and watercolor creations through the newly reopened Brown Rabbit Studio Etsy shop.
And it’s not just a name; it’s a real place! Reminiscent of a cottage from a fairy tale book, The Brown Rabbit Studio sits atop meandering Mill Creek in Paxico, Kansas, just outside my mother’s bedroom window. It’s a quiet and contemplative place to live out her dreams of painting and teaching, with nature as a primary inspiration. The shy brown rabbits that inhabit our local community are a favorite subject for painting, and inspired her shop name.
The Brown Rabbit Studio has been featured as a “Favorite Place to Visit” by Kansas Magazine. Susan’s work has also been featured in Victoria magazine. She’s been painting and teaching for over 30 years.
Watercolor bookmarks and notecards, original paintings, and art prints have just stocked at Susan’s Brown Rabbit Studio. The bookmarks are hand-painted so no two are alike. Each one is rendered on fine archival cotton paper and embellished with an organza ribbon. A set of three is just $18 and shipping is free.
There are also note card sets, which are prints of Susan’s original prairie landscapes in oil (you can see her full portfolio at SusanPoitevin.com). They are packaged in sets of 6 or 8 and include white envelopes. You can get them for $16 with free shipping. Make sure you favorite her shop, because more items are being added right now, including digital files, gift tags and rabbit paper dolls.
Here’s a small sampling of my mother’s oil paintings. Prairie skies, water and pastoral scenes are favorite subjects, and being in Kansas guarantees plenty of inspiration!
