When feeding convenience foods to their children, parents often end up serving themselves a big helping of guilt. Because let’s face it: a lot of frozen, pre-packaged meals are high in sodium, sugars, and artificial flavors, and low on fiber and vitamins. But a team of two mothers has put an end to regrets like that with a line of organic frozen foods for toddlers called Yummy Spoonfuls.
Mary Kate’s eating habits are very typical right now for a toddler of almost two. She’s easily distracted while eating, and is starting to get a little picky. I was curious to see how our complimentary sample of Yummy Spoonfuls would be received. We choose the Pinto Bean Turkey Bowl, which contains organic beans, brown rice, tomatoes, turkey and spices. Here’s what you will NOT find in a Yummy Spoonfuls frozen meal:
- Artificial flavors and colors
- GMO’s or antibiotics
- Fillers
And here’s all the good stuff:
- USDA organic
- Clean Label Certified
- Provides more than 65% daily required protein for growing toddlers
- Packaged in 100% recycled paperboard
Ideally, I’m sure we’d all love to make our own baby food with fresh-from-the-garden ingredients, but very few of us can fit this type of commitment into our lives. With Yummy Spoonfuls, you get convenience without sacrificing quality or purity. Each meal is made with fresh, organic ingredients, in the same way you would prepare food in your own home.
Mary Kate’s entree took about a minute and a half to heat in our small microwave. A quick stir and it was ready to serve.
I chose this particular meal because we eat a lot of beans and rice in our family (nine children, remember?), and those ingredients are familiar to Mary Kate. She ate about half of her Yummy Spoonfuls entree with a smile, drank her milk, and then wanted to get down and play. I saved the rest in the fridge for supper. I call that a win!
Yummy Spoonfuls are great for families who want their toddlers to eat well, and eat organic, but are very short on time. Each little entree is just under $4.00, which is affordable if you’re picking up a few for busy days, but could get expensive if you plan to serve these daily.
One suggestion I would have is based on the fact that toddlers like to have different foods in front of them, and the typical frozen dinner has little compartments with 3 or 4 different components. I’d love to see a Yummy Spoonfuls meal that had 2 or more food choices in it, rather than just a meal-sized portion of a single food. As a bonus, I think it would offer more visual appeal for a young child.
Yummy Spoonfuls aren’t just easy to serve, they are easy to buy. Now available in the freezer section of select Walmart stores, there’s also a special ibotta offer you don’t want to miss. Choose from up to 9 different options, so your toddler never gets bored!

I think it’s great that more organic options are becoming available in convenient meals. I agree that they should offer different types of food in one meal. Our kids are definitely visual eaters and like a variety.

These look like great foods for toddlers! I’m finding more and more that organic is either the same price as non-organic, or slightly cheaper, which is awesome for parents of growing children!

I will have to look for that the next time I go grocery shopping. My grandson is turning out to be a picky eater. Right now all he wants is flavored oatmeal. We try to give it some variety by adding minced meat and veggies. I think he will enjoy this Yummy Spoonfuls. I love that this brand is organic!
