*UPDATE* Diaper Rite has changed the sizing of these pre-fitteds; instead of newborn to large, they are now available in either Size 1 or Size 2. New review coming in 2017!
Cotton prefolds appeal to me greatly, but since I don’t have the time or patience to do special folds, and I prefer something a little more absorbent, the Diaper Rite snapless pre-fitteds caught my eye. They are made of that same lovely prefold fabric but are contoured to fit your baby and have elasticized legs.
The different sizes have different thread colors around the edges. I have a small and a medium:
Here are the basic features of the Snapless Pre-Fitted:
- Four sizes available: newborn or 6-12 lbs. (natural stitching) is $5.95, small or 8-18 lbs. (purple stitching) is $6.95, medium or 14-30 lbs. (green stitching) is $7.95 and large or 26-40 lbs. (orange stitching) is $8.95
- Made of the same 100% Indian cotton that you find in Diaper Rite prefolds
- Eight layers of cotton in the diaper plus four extra layers in the semi-attached soaker
- Elastic at the back and the leg openings
- Requires a fastener to close (i.e. pins, Boingo’s or Snappi’s)
Diaper Rite suggested 4-5 washes before using this diaper, since it’s natural/unbleached cotton. I used during the day after 3 washes, and then tried overnight after 5 washes. It continues to get softer and more absorbent with every wash.
Sizing and Fit: I tested the small (8-18 lbs.) and a medium (14-30 lbs.). Ingrid is eight months old and just over 15 pounds and she fit much better in the medium. The rise on the small was too short for her. If your baby is near the end of one of the size ranges, I would definitely suggest going up a size (i.e. if your baby is 26 pounds, go for the large and not the medium). Covers that worked well over this fitted diaper? I found that Sweet Pea, Diaper Rite, Kawaii, Thirsties, Imagine and Best Bottoms all cover the diaper adequately.
Here is Ingrid in two different sizes so you can see how the medium fits her better:
These pre-fitteds are very soft and cozy. The wings stretch far enough around to give you plenty of fabric to work with no matter which fastener you are using. Both Snappi’s and Boingo’s worked just fine with this diaper. I didn’t like the two tags sticking out on the back of the diaper so much; one is a tiny size tag and the other is the brand tag. You could remove these very easily if you wanted, although I’m not sure if that would affect re-sale value. I do like that the tags don’t touch baby’s skin, though.
One of the best things about this diaper is the leg elastic; paired with a good cover (esp. one with double gussets) you get excellent poo containment. Much better than you would get if simply trifolding or pad folding a diaper. I would LOVE to have a little stash of these fitteds for a newborn baby; one dozen would only be $60.
This diaper is bulkier than a standard prefold since it has the partially attached doubler and wings around the side. If you use prefolds regularly, you’re probably not going to stress about the extra bulk, though. If you’re used to AIO diapers or pockets with just one insert, the bulk might bother you.
Absorbency: With 12 layers of heavyweight 100% cotton twill, this diaper is more absorbent than one prefold alone (which generally has 8 layers of fabric in the wet zone). Ingrid cannot wear a prefold diaper for her 3-hour nap, but this diaper is more than up to the job. With a Diaper Rite cotton doubler (just $1.69 each) added on top, she can wear this overnight. Ingrid is a normal to moderate wetter; I can’t speak to how this diaper would perform on a heavy wetter or an older toddler.
Value: With the semi-attached doubler included, you get 12 absorbent layers of fabric in this little fitted, making it the most affordable and most absorbent budget cotton fitted on the market! Boosted with a Diaper Rite cotton doubler (which costs $1.69) I now have a workable nighttime diaper for just $9.64.
If you love prefolds but want to try something a little different, I think the Diaper Rite Pre-Fitteds would really make you happy! Or, if you’re curious about fitteds, but can’t spend $15 or $20 right now, this might be an affordable way to get your feet wet.
I would like to send TWO Diaper Rite Pre-Fitted diapers (choose your size) to one lucky winner! This giveaway is open to US and Canadian residents only. Good luck and I hope you had a blessed Easter!
Catherine Aders says
Thank you for this review. I have been wanting to try a fitted but hate to shell out so much if they won’t work for us. This looks like a great option to start off with. I would definitely pick the green stitching…our little guy is a little over 12 lbs so it should work great for him. 🙂
Kayla McFarland says
I already have a lot of newborn and small size CD products. I would take the medium green one.
sherry blamer says
I like the look of this diaper. I like that it is a diaper but functions like a prefold. That concept is pretty nice. I really love the purple color diaper.
Jessica Martinez says
Awaiting a preemie and would love to try snapless fitteds. I would get the purple (small). I think these have better leg elastic than the ones I ordered a few weeks ago. I may be ordering some…
Denise Beeman says
I would love to try these fitted and the price is do able! I would try one medium nd one large. I have a big boy 17 pounds at 3 months and wonder how they would fit. We struggle to snappi our large square prefolds now, but loved them when they fit well.
Anne says
Since these little fitteds are contoured to the baby’s body, I find it’s so much easier to get a good fit compared to a regular prefold. And the nice long wings mean it’s not hard at all to use any type of fastener. ~Anne
Amanda B says
Thanks for the giveaway. I’d love to try out these fitted diapers!!
Jessica Gai says
I love that the price is so low! I think I may grab a half dozen newborn to go with my 18 newborn prefolds and covers…. Just starting out my stash but I’m sure it would be a good addition with newborn poops. I wonder if I could just wrap the diaper and cover it without using a boingo or snappy?
Anne says
I’m buying some FOR SURE if we are blessed with another baby! They are so soft and absorbent and affordable. I tried putting this on without fasteners, Jessica, and it was a bit tricky. The wings tend to flop backwards, though, and won’t lay flat across the waist without a fastener. But it can be done if you hold the wings tightly in place as you wrap the cover around the baby (using a hook and loop cover would make this easier). ~Anne
Sarah Collier says
I would love to win some of these in the newborn size!! They look like awesome diapers. 🙂
Christina H says
Baby isn’t here yet (coming in June!) but I’ve been starting my stash with AIOs and AI2s to make it easier since this is our first. This type of fitted sounds much less intimidating than prefolds. Would love to try some, maybe a small and a medium.
Des Nance says
I think the green would do the trick for us. Seems like it might be a bit less bulky than two pad folded flats as a night time solution. Hopefully this would be a little less daunting for my husband as well. 🙂
Caroline Feavel says
These diapers look awesome! I didn’t even know something like this existed! Super excited. Would love to win a size small and medium!
Laura says
I’d go with large.
Melissa K. says
Thank you for all the reviews and giveaways you do. The pictures help me see how the diapers should fit too (newbie). We would need size medium.
Anne says
Glad to help, Melissa! ~Anne
Jessica CG says
I would love a newborn or small since my little one arrives in May and I am trying to build up my smaller size stash!
Kim D says
I would need a medium and would love to try these. The only fitted diapers I have right now are OS so they are pretty bulky! That’s probably why we only use them for night diapers!
Aimee P. says
do you think that if you used these pre-fitteds with a pad folded infant pre-fold in a cover that it would be too bulky for over night? (so like pad fold pre-fold laid in the cover and then pre-fitted fastened on baby and then cover and pad fold put over the pre-fitted)
Anne says
Yes, I think so, Aimee. So far, using it with a small Diaper Rite cotton doubler has been my limit as far as bulk goes. Anything more than a small/trim doubler and it gets really puffy and the fit is just not as good. Also, it will make the leg openings gape a little. My suggestion, if you want to boost the absorbency overnight, would be to use a very trim but thirsty insert like a JoeyBunz or Geffen absorber. ~Anne
delia jones says
These do look like they would work well for a nighttime option. I am sure that with a wool cover, you wouldn’t have leaks.
Anne says
Yes, Delia, they would be fantastic with wool! ~Anne
Jennifer Beggs says
i think these would be great for using at home. I’d pick the medium size.
Amanda Austin says
I really like this concept. Don’t know why I haven’t heard about these before. If we were to try these, My son would need a large. He’s almost toilet trained, although not really quite ready to use underwear yet.
Alicia Henderson says
I have been looking for an easier option to prefolds/flats and haven’t been able to find a contoured diaper that I could really afford. I love the sizing options. I would need the size small for my lo. I can’t wait to pick some of these up for myself.
katie m says
I would need the medium fit.
Ashley Morel says
I used homemade fitted diapers and they were ok but these look great. My little guy would be a medium size.
Allie Hewitt says
Would love to try a fitted – looking for a better nighttime solution! Baby boy would need a Medium right now.
Kristina L says
A one size fitted diaper would be perfect!
Carrie Barron says
I would choose a medium and a large. My son is 24 pounds, so he could wear the medium now and the large in a few months. Thanks for the thorough review and giveaway!
Melissa C. says
Which cover do you like to pair this with?
Anne says
Melissa, in my testing I used Sweet Pea, Diaper Rite, Kawaii, Thirsties, Imagine and Best Bottoms, and all give good coverage over this fitted. ~Anne
Amy L says
I would need the newborn size. Due next month!
Jessica J says
my guy would fit a medium
All Natural Katie says
Can I use a tight fitting cover and forgo the snappi?
Anne says
Katie, I did try the diaper without a fastener and it’s tricky because the wings tend to flop backwards, and won’t lay flat across the waist without a fastener. But it can be done if you hold the wings tightly in place as you quickly wrap the cover around the baby (using a hook and loop cover would make this easier). Be aware also that the diaper is going to shift somewhat underneath the cover if it’s not fastened. ~Anne
Rashele says
I would love to try these for my upcoming newbie. I would pick 1 NB and 1 Small.
Theresa Hover says
Our little one isn’t here yet, so we haven’t tried fitted diapers, but I’ve heard they are the best for night time. I love that they are 100% cotton, I’m trying to find as many natural fabric diapers as possible. I think the size small would be the best for us, and then if they work well, we could order the next sizes up!
Laura F. says
I’d probably go with one medium and one large – my son is smack in between those sizes right now.
Stephanie says
I would choose a small size since this would be for our first due in September.
Kimberly Worrell says
We would need the large size. I would also love to see an absorbancy & fit comparison between these & the bamboo version.
Anne says
The bamboo ones are cut the very same way, so the fit should be almost exactly the same. But since they have bamboo, would be a little more absorbent. ~Anne
april h says
I haven’t tried their fitted yet, but it does look easier than the prefold! I think I’d try the medium with green stitching!
Nicole Fox says
I need a large please!! =)
Brittany M says
I would probably go with a small since our little one hasn’t arrived yet. I really want to get some fitted diapers. I heard they are a good overnight option.
Robin Jones says
I would need size medium.
Joanne Gregory says
We would need a size large.
Judith Martinez says
If I could do my stash all over it would be exclusively this kind of fitted and flats.
Anne says
That really appeals to me, too! ~Anne
Lauren Simms says
Small, for our newest squish, our 4th, due in June!
Amy P says
I definitely like that there are elastics around the legs. Poo containment is a many splendored thing.
Kristen M. says
I would want a medium for my little girl.
Talia says
Thanks for the review! I have been interested in prefitteds for a while, especially since I lack the ability to properly fold a prefold; I like that these take the guesswork out for us! I’d probably get a medium for my little guy.
Anne says
Talia, that’s me as well. I never have mastered any of the more complicated folds, so everything around here is pad folded and that’s not always 100% for number two diapers. ~Anne
lesleeane c says
These look like great affordable fitteds. We’d love to try a medium and large! Thank you!
Karine says
I’d need large”)
Danielle Smith says
I would need the large size.
Barb Borntreger says
My baby girl is already 15 pounds, so I’d probably go with the Medium one!
Lacy says
My lo is due in August and I put these on my registry! I’m super stoked to try one and would love to add two newborn ones to my stash! I plan on buying a few no matter what. I love how you review DiaperRite products because so far I have loved all of mine. I have their OS cover, newborn cover, sm and nb sized prefolds, disposable liners (heard the baby’s first poo is best caught with these), and some of their cloth wipes. I plan on getting some of their doublers as a side note! So glad you review. Thanks!
Anne says
I’ve loved all the new products from Diaper Rite so far. Really pleased with the quality and prices and happy to share with you, Lacy!
Emily Bavaro says
I am already a fan of fitted for overnight. Thanks for introducing me to such a great value!
Laura says
Thank you for running this giveaway. I am just starting to cloth diaper my son who is 19 months. Late i know, but better late than never!
Hope i can add pre-fitteds to my startup stash!
Nicole B says
Would love to give these a go as a night time diaper, or just to use for airing out through the day. The way my youngest is growing, I’d be crazy to go with any thing but a large :S
Tara says
Ooh, I would love to try these! We would likely need a large. 🙂
Jessica says
I would probably like a medium & a large. My 4th baby hasn’t arrived yet but I have a bunch of newborn-small fitteds. I’m excited to try out what looks like a great fitted option!
Ann says
We would need large I think. He’s about 21-22 pounds.
Alanna says
Thank you so much for the review! I am very interested in trying fitteds next time around for our next child.
Since my husband and I are currently TTC, I would love to try the newborn size 🙂
Alicia Nicole McDonald says
I have wanted to try the fitted so bad for a while now. I do belive my son would wear a large. He is u months old and 17lbs.
Rachael VanDyke says
Medium please. Would love to try these out seem more simple than prefolds and love that the covers can still be reused until dirty.
Heather says
How many layers do the doublets have? How would this compare to a bamboo or hemp fitted?
Anne says
Heather, there are 4 additional layers of cotton in the doubler. ~Anne
Juliet Malloy says
Thank you so much for this giveaway! I think we would like to try the smallest, newborn size! Building our stash for future little!
Jennifer says
It’s nice to know that they can hold up to a nap. Size wise I’m thinking a medium would probably be best.
Kristina says
I’d probably go with size large for my toddler, and a small for when newbie arrives. I’ve yet to begin buying for this one, but these look like a great option. I was going to stick to prefolds but like you, I end up pad folding them and every poo end up with not only a diaper to spray but a cover too! Thanks for another great review. =)
Anne says
Kristina, remind me again when your due date is. And have you signed up for the Bonjour Baby expectant mothers giveaway? I’d love to know what you’re planning to use for baby-on-the-way! ~Anne
Kristina says
My due date is September 7th. Yes, I entered the giveaway. You only enter it once correct?
I’m thinking I was going to go with prefolds, fitteds, and some good newborn covers. Hoping that wetness feeling isn’t an issue too soon and being changed so often, I don’t think I’ll need an overnight solution for awhile. I’m not into all in one’s or the convenience type diapers (I tend to like to do things the hard way ha), but I find pockets useful for bedtime for my toddler with the stay dry benefit, and I stuff them with cotton. I don’t like to use synthetics much. Any recommendations for me?
Only other unknown is size. I tend to have larger newborns hmm..
Anne says
Great, just wanted to make sure! If your name is on, then you’re good to go. I’m the very same way with pockets, Kristina, and use them almost exclusively with my toddler overnight. I also have a few stashed in the diaper bag so I don’t have to fold anything while out of the house.
My favorite newborn prefolds are the extra small Geffens, and that’s because you simply don’t have to change them as much as a regular prefold. They fit just fine in any newborn cover. Second favorites would be the GroVia bamboo prefolds. Our Diaper Rite bamboo/cotton flats, even in size small, don’t fit those first few weeks. ~Anne
Kristina says
Thank you!! I haven’t even looked at those. Love having new stuff to check out.
Kristina CS says
I have never heard of this brand of diaper before now but am intrigued by them and their cost. Even if I don’t win (hoping I do though for this next baby) I might just have to look into them a bit more. Really hoping to get some newborn diapers this time around.
Martha says
Wish I would have found these when I first got started with cloth. Such an easy way to get started. I would go with the medium.
Laurie P says
Fantastic diapers! Would love to gift these to an expecting friend!
Ciel says
I would love to try out this fitted! My little guy is already over 16 lbs so I think the medium would be our size. Thanks for the review, it’s so hard to know what’s worth trying and what’s not.
Jill S says
I love how you told which covers you used it with so people would have an idea of what they can get by with.
Kadie says
My “little” one would likely need large. They grow up way too fast!
Rachel R. says
Haven’t tried these, but they look like they would eliminate some of my frustration w/ using prefolds on my newborn. Fiddling w/ the folds and a snappi in the dark at night turned me off of them.
Anita k says
This was a great review.I shared this with my daughter,it’s her first.she loves it.thanks so very much for sharing.
jennifer laur says
my babe is outgorwing her mediums so i would choose large!
Rachel K. says
I’ve been wanting to try Diaper Rite’s fitted diapers, as I love their bamboo flats and cotton doublers. The only cotton fitted I have is GMD, in medium and large (with snaps). My 22 lb 9 month old has very chunky legs, and so the GMD medium has been too small on him for awhile now, but the large is a great fit. His weight is within range of the Diaper Rite medium, but do you think he would better fit in a large? How do the brands compare in terms of fit? I would love to have a snapless Diaper Rite, as I know I could get a better fit!
Anne says
I would suggest the large. Other reviewers besides myself have noted they run a bit small in the rise, and that can affect the fit around the legs. I would say the Diaper Rites are very similar in terms of fit compared to the GMD’s Workhorse. But the Diaper Rites are slightly cheaper and, I think, a tad more absorbent. ~Anne
Rachel K. says
Great, thanks! Then large it will be. We can definitely use extra absorbency! My little guy pees a lot.
barnolds barnes says
I’d take the medium–love how soft these seem.
Chelsea Macnab says
We could use a size M (green). Great review!
Kristina D says
We would love to try these out! We would go for the small size 🙂
Keara B. says
These looks fantastic, I’d love to try them! (Especially because I have a heavy wetter.) I don’t currently own any Boingos or Snappis… would they work at all without fastening them?
Anne says
Keara, I did try putting the diaper on without a fastener. The wings don’t stay flat very well and flop backwards, so to make it work you have to work fast and hold both flaps in place while simultaneously fastening the cover. Using a velcro cover would make this easier, I think, but I did it with a snap cover. Without a fastener, it’s going to shift a little bit more under the cover, but that shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. ~Anne
Keara B. says
Thank you for the reply!! I think I should probably just invest in some fasteners. Not a huge investment. 😉
Erica Solomon says
I would probably need a small. I have a long skinny 4 month old girl who is about 12.5 lbs
kimberly young says
I would need either a small or a medium fitted diaper 🙂
Sarah Elyce says
I would need large. I have one chunky, beautiful 6 month old baby girl! hehe
Lacy says
I have heard that you can just put a fitted on a newborn when you are in the hospital with your baby. Is this true or not?
Anne says
Yes, you should be able to use cloth diapers at the hospital with no problem. One of these Diaper Rite fitteds would be ideal in the newborn size. Just remember you would need a fastener of some kind and a cover. And a wet bag to store the dirty diapers! ~Anne
Madeleine says
She’ll need a size medium 🙂
Amanda D says
I would need a medium for our little guy. I haven’t tried a fitted before, but these prices are great! Needing to find a nighttime solution, and think we may give fitteds a try.
Lara C. says
This is such a SMART invention! I love that they are prefolds that work well with people like me who are confused by all the crazy folds. So awesome. I probably would get medium if we tried some.
Karen W says
I think my little girl would still fit best in a medium now, but it would be great if we won the 2 diapers to get one in the medium and one in the large to be able to compare the fits. Thanks for the chance at this giveaway!
Michelle Douzat says
We have been planning on trying out fitted for night time. We would love to try a medium! Thanks for the chance!
Kristina Miller says
I would love to win the medium!
Nicole H. says
I’d need a size medium. I plan to cloth diaper foster children and a medium should fit children with a range of ages and weights.
Rachel P says
I’m just getting into cloth diapering. So far I’ve ordered pockets and all in ones but I would love to try prefolds if I win! 😉
Amy Hall says
I’ve alwyas wondered if snappis are uncomfortable, for baby, I mean.
Anne says
I actually prefer the Boingo because it doesn’t put pressure on the crotch area, but Snappi’s are also very popular and time-tested. ~Anne
Sarah L says
I’ve heard a lot about fitted diapers, particularly for newborns or overnight, so I’d love to try one. I’d go with the newborn size since we’re trying to build a newborn stash. Thanks for the helpful review and great giveaway!
Jean Marie C says
I WOULD PROBABLY GO WITH A SMALL FOR MY LIL BOY WHO’S GONNA BE HERE IN JULY…
Rachel says
I’d probably want a size small!
Ashley F says
I think we would need size small, I have a little one due in a couple weeks and we have tons of newborn stuff, but some smalls would be perfect.
Lindsay Jackson says
I would get newborn for baby #3 due in the fall! These look great!
cassie D. says
I’d probably get smalls Im due in 4 weeks and I have big babies 🙂
Anel says
I would need a size medium, but I think I would also need extra absorbency because my little guy is a heavy wetter. The added bulk might bother me a tad bit, but if it gets the job done, I’ll be happy. Thanks!
Gladys Aguilar says
Wow ive never heard 8f prefitteds. They look awesome. I would get a medium for my chunky baby
