Last year, Diaper Safari introduced its own line of one-size pocket diapers and they have already become very popular! Now, they have added a waterproof one-size cover and trifold insert to their store. Our friends at Diaper Safari sent us one of each to try out, and so today I’ll share our experiences with you.
I picked the red color called “Cardinal.” Here’s the cover on the smallest and largest settings:
The trifold inserts consist of two layers of a 70% bamboo/30% cotton blend on one side and a stay-dry synthetic suedecloth on the other side. Before washing, the inserts measure 16 inches by 13.5 inches. Because one size is made of natural fibers and the reverse is synthetic, they shrink a little bit unevenly, but it doesn’t affect performance. Here’s a photo of the insert next to a Flip organic; they are very similar in size. If you look at the edge of the Diaper Safari insert, you can see how the edges roll up just a bit because the bamboo/cotton side shrinks more than the suedecloth in the dryer.
The Diaper Safari trifold insert can be laid inside a cover for a very trim diapering system. You can choose to put the stay-dry fabric or the natural fibers up against your baby’s bottom. Fold on the short side for smaller babies and on the longer size for older babies and toddlers.
This is a soft, sturdy and absorbent insert and I’ve been nothing but pleased with the performance. As I mentioned before, because there are both natural and synthetic fabrics used in this insert, it shrinks unevenly, so when you lay it out flat the two different layers don’t line up perfectly and this causes the edges to curl up a little. This is mildly annoying but really more of an aesthetic issue, because the insert still trifolds easily and is nice and smooth on the top.
I like the trim fit of this cover. It’s almost identical to the Diaper Safari pockets. Very trim, but roomy enough to stuff with even the bulkiest prefolds and fitteds. The PUL is nice and smooth, and the waist tabs are good and stretchy. I’m a big fan of double snaps on the wings, but the single snaps on this cover get the job done, especially since there are hip snaps included.
Here’s the cover on my kiddos. Erik, at just 10 pounds, is not using the insert since he’s so little. I would say the insert fits 6 months and up. So in these photos, Erik is wearing one of his newborn prefolds under the Diaper Safari cover.
It’s not very trim on Erik, but it does hold everything in.
Here’s Susanna at 18 months and about 23 pounds:
And my toddler, Samuel, who is almost 3 years old – and 35 pounds. He’s probably going to “max out” this cover pretty soon since we’ve got it snapped completely out and it’s pretty low in the rise.
In my opinion, Diaper Safari has come up with a great-fitting and very economical diapering system. The covers are just $— each and are “wipe and re-use” so you can get a lot of mileage of out them. The inserts, which feature both natural and stay-dry fibers, are only $5.99. That’s less than competitors like the Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefold and Flip Organic inserts.
The Diaper Safari covers come in a delicious assortment of colors! My favorites are Cardinal (red) and Steel (silver).
And did I mention the FREE SHIPPING? That is such a great perk and it keeps me going back to Diaper Safari time and time again. Plus, their service is prompt and super friendly. It’s the total package!
Ok, here’s how to add some of the new Diaper Safari covers and trifold inserts to your stash:

I’m definitely a cardinel person, but that concord is so vivid!
I love the water colored one!
I like the tulip color
Like the color. It looks like it would fit my 23# little guy well too.
I love the Steel color!
the blue is gorgeous
I love the cardinal color but also like citrus and daffodil for gender neutral and tulip and wisteria for girl colors.
Anne, what would you recommend as your favorite diaper cover? My criteria are: sturdy, long lasting, economically priced, and one-size. Thanks! And I like the chestnut color. 🙂
Hi Laura, if I were to pick the top 3 diaper covers in my stash, they would be first the Sweet Pea one-size, and then Flips and then the Diaper Safari. Sweet Peas and DS covers definitely have the edge as far as price goes (the former is 10 and the latter is 9). Sweet Peas ranked the highest for me in terms of durability; the elastic seems to stay stronger a bit longer than the Flips. Fortunately for all three brands, they are backed by WONDERFUL customer service, so you’ll get fast help if any problems should happen to arise. Thanks for your question and for entering! ~Anne
Thanks!! 🙂
Would love to try snow, steel, or speermimt!
I love the steel and spearmint the best but they are all so pretty

concord and pea pod are awesome colors! Love reading your reviews!
I love that your reviews show the diapers on several sizes so we can see how the fit goes from kid to kid! 🙂 That’s unique in the blogging world and I think it’s great!
Having 3 in cloth sure keeps me busy, but you’re right – it’s taught me a lot about which diapers fit best at different stages. Thanks for the compliment! ~Anne
I like nautical
LOVE that you try the diaper on 3 different kiddos! I have a Diaper Safari pocket and have been quite pleased with it. Love that cardinal color!
Love the review, including the honesty about something like the diapers not being trim. (We have the same issue with the diapers we use, Flip, which seem like they’re very similar.) I LOVE the Tulip color!!!
I love this! Just started following your blog last week and already a giveaway! Thank you for trying it out! I’d love to win one!
Glad you’re on board, Krystin! ~Anne
Wisteria. I lost my Aunt this week to cancer and at the funeral he handed out wisteria seeds to everyone to plant in remembrance of her. They were seeds from her wisteria that was growing in her yard it was her favorite .
What a beautiful way to honor your aunt! ~Anne
I like the citrus yellow. Your children are beautiful and it’s great that you can show how the diaper will fit on 3 sizes!
Thanks for your sweet comment, Andrea! ~Anne

LOL, aren’t the names delicious! Thanks for stopping by, Sarah – good to hear from you! ~Anne
Steel
I like the spearmint color best! =)
I loev the assortment of bright colors that they have! Concord is my favorite!
My favorite color is PeaPod. I’ve not seen a system like this (though just flats and covers I ruled out becuase I thought it would be too much trouble)…how hard is it to fold insert? how many covers + inserts do you neeD?
It’s really easy to fold the insert, Becky. Just do it in thirds; fold in left side and the fold in right side. That’s it! Takes just a few seconds and then you lay it in the cover. No pins needed. For one baby, I’d say a stash of 6 covers plus 24 inserts or prefolds. This should last you a few days between each washing. And you can save lots of money by getting free shipping. That’s something I love about http://www.diapersafari.com/?AffId=38! ~Anne
I like the Nautical color!
I like the Peapod best!
I like the Cardinal, Tulip and Water. Cute colors, and a great review from you, so I can’t wait to try them!

Whoops, wrong giveaway post 🙂
I like the water color best!
All the colors are really great. I like that Concord is a gn purple. That can be hard to find. I also like that Sweet Potato isn’t quite as intense as some oranges.
I like the Water color.
My favorite color is steel.
I’m pretty much in love with the daffodil for some reason 🙂
I like cardinal.

Steel and Ebony are both nice, and can go with everything.
Gosh, they’re all so great!

I love the wisteria color. We’ve got this diaper in tulip (and it’s amazing!) so I think the muted purple would go great with the soft pink.

I like several of the colors, but today I’d pick Ebony:)

I love the wisteria colored one.
I love the wisteria the best but there are several colors that are really pretty!
I like ebony the best! I really like black cloth diapers!
These look really simple to use and with 2 to be in cloth diapers in a month, it makes me really want to try them!
I love the color ‘water’. I’m having a girl, but baby blue is just such a soft and cozy color. I had a phase from 7th to 8th grade where I only wore baby blue clothing. ^_^
I’m a new follower, and I love the honest first hand reviews. And I love steel!
